Color Mixing with Acrylic

The reviews are in! Artists LOVE the course:

"I’ve ordered other online classes in the past, and most of them turned out to be more like passive demonstrations. Yours was completely different: engaging, clear, and so thoughtfully structured. I’m honestly sad the class is almost complete."

- Margie F., USA

"Having just completed Marianne’s Colour Mixing with Acrylics course, I highly recommend it to those who wish to extend and deepen their knowledge of painting. This is a unique and useful course which would be of benefit to all those who wish to master colour."

- Keith S., UK

"I am blown away by the depth of knowledge I gained. This course not only taught me why colors mix the way they do, but also provided me with a full understanding of how to make adjustments to achieve the perfect color. Highly recommended."

- Jennifer T., USA

Do you enjoy sequential, structured, hands-on learning?

Do you struggle with mixing colors, and have no idea how to adjust your mixes to get your desired result?

Color Mixing with Acrylic was designed for you

If you've ever struggled with getting the right colors with acrylic paints, you're not alone. This course has been designed to address every single color mixing issue I've come across in nearly a decade of teaching acrylic painting.

But get ready to work! The course is hands-on, and requires you to participate in exercises and color mixing charts throughout.

Your final project will be a 26 page completed color mixing guidebook, using an 8.5 x 5.5" sketchbook for size. This will be an invaluable resource for your studio that you can continue to utilize as a living resource and ongoing guide and study tool.

Materials used:

For paint colors, we'll be using a total of 8 colors: quinacridone magenta, cadmium red medium, cadmium yellow medium, cadmium yellow light, phthalo blue (green shade), ultramarine blue (red shade or just neutral), burnt umber and titanium white.

If you don't have these paint colors and are unable to buy them, no worries! I have a full list of substitutions available. You'll need one warm and one cool of each primary color, plus an earth tone and white. That's it!

We will be working in a Strathmore 8.5" x 5.5" watercolor journal. You can also find books with these same measurements by Stillman & Birn. You may substitute any watercolor sketchbook or paper that you'd like, you may just need to adjust your measurements during the charts.

What You'll Get in the Course:

  • 26 pages of real-time color theory and color mixing exercises
  • 65 page coursepack that unpacks each lesson in further detail
  • Power lessons explaining each key color concept prior to individual exercises
  • Bonus content including a real time acrylic sketchbook entry and color chart creation (4+ hours of teaching)
  • Lifetime access, so you can go at your own pace
  • Lifetime access to our private support community

This course comes with a full 30 day money back satisfaction guarantee. If you're not in love, you will be refunded in full within 30 days, no questions asked.

FAQs

  1. How long should I budget to complete the course? The course will include over 18 hours of instruction. The exercises range from 20-45 minutes to complete. If you complete one exercise per day, you'll be done in one month.
  2. What if I decide that this course isn't for me? I'm proud to offer a 30 day money back satisfaction guarantee. This is effective as of the launch date, not the purchase date, so you have 30 days to enjoy the course and decide if it's the right fit for you.
  3. Can I do this course in oils or watercolors? This course will translate well to oil, but not watercolor. However, if you are an oil painter, I will be releasing a color mixing course just for oils in Fall 2025. This course offers techniques and applications specifically for acrylic painters, but for oil specific exercises, I am designing an entirely separate course.
  4. What materials will I need? You'll receive an email upon checkout with an extensive list, but you will need the following paint colors and an 8.5" x 5.5" sketchbook (Strathmore or Stillman & Birn are my go tos): quinacridone magenta, cadmium red medium, cadmium yellow medium, cadmium yellow light, phthalo blue (green shade), ultramarine blue (red shade), burnt umber and titanium white. You will also need gesso, painter's tape in various sizes, a ruler, a pencil, a protractor and a drawing compass. The full list will be emailed to you in advance.
  5. If I don't have those colors, can I still do the course? YES! You can absolutely substitute other colors. You will need one warm and one cool for each of the primaries, as well as burnt umber and titanium white. Your mixes will be slightly different than what I show on the screen, but if you follow the same principles of mixing that I demonstrate, you'll be able to explore your existing colors in new and exciting ways.
